The intern will find out what type of certification programs are offered by local community colleges or universities. The intern will also look into paid apprenticeships offered by local businesses, farmers, and ranchers.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

The goal of this internship is to compile a list of job, career, educational, and apprenticeships opportunities in rural communities.
The first group of stakeholders are businesses, farmers, and ranchers who are looking to hire qualified personnel for job openings. The second group includes people who want to start or change their career while staying in rural communities they grew up in or have lived for some time.
The internship will last 10-weeks, a travel budget of $2500, which includes $1000 for milage and $1500 for hotel stays and will include one intern. The intern will have access to a laptop computer throughout the internship, will use his/her own vehicle for travels, will be housed either for free or in a motel depending on availability.
The objective of this internship is to compile a list of job, career, and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as certification programs in Morgan, Rio Grande, and Prowers County. The intern will collect and write, if necessary, job descriptions, apprenticeships offered by local businesses, and certification programs offered by local community colleges and universities.

With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?

There are two main groups of stakeholders. The first group of stakeholders are businesses, farmers, and ranchers who are looking to hire qualified personnel for job openings. The second group includes people who want to start or change their career while staying in their rural communities. The intern will mostly work with the first group to find out what kind of job, career, and apprenticeship opportunities local businesses, famers, and ranchers are offering. The intern will also ask members of the first group what type of certification or education they are looking for in people they want to hire. The intern will also work with local community colleges and universities to compile a list of certificate programs offered within the region.

What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?

I anticipate that the intern will learn how to make connections with members of the local community. I also anticipate that the intern will learn about opportunities within a rural community. In the past rural society was based predominantly on agriculture and landownership, Today, the rural population is still involved in agricultural as a way of life directly or indirectly. However, there are more job opportunities indirectly related with agriculture.
