We are accepting applications for internship opportunity proposals from Faculty / Staff and Extension employees. This is a competitive selection process. Internship applications must demonstrate a strong connection between campus and field, the importance of the internship content to the community and meet all requirements listed below. If your internship is selected for Summer 2024, you will be notified by January 1
st, 2024. Current (and returning Fall 2024) undergraduate and graduate students of CSU will be invited to apply January 8
th- 28
th 2024.
Your internship opportunities must be based in Colorado, and all proposals must demonstrate the following:
·    Applied research that supports campus/field engagement.
·   Opportunities for student professional development and engaged learning.
·   Connections to identified Colorado stakeholder(s) need.
·    Connections to one or more of the Extension and Engagement programmatic areas.
·    At least one Faculty/Staff (an engaged scholar, research-focusedÂ
on-campus employee) and at least one field-based (regional or county-based) Extension Specialist (anÂ
off-campus engaged professional who works/lives in a community) are required to jointly mentor a CSU student for the internship or project.Â

·    Clearly stated internship location (county, on-campus, statewide), details on the project/work environment, for example approximate percentage of time gathering date in the field, or at events, or time spent at a desk or remotely completing documentation or other work on-campus or in an office setting, etc.).
Multiple interns may be requested but are not guaranteed, funding is limited. Priority for a second intern will be given to Mentor Teams who are able to provide some matching funding support.
Applications are due by 5:00 pm on December 15th, 2023, or if you do not have a full mentor committee and need help finding a match, your application is due by 5:00 p.m. on November 10th, 2023.
Internship Overview:
- Interns may begin internship work any time after the last day of exams for Spring Semester 2024 and must conclude work by the first day of classes for Fall Semester 2024.
- Interns are expected to work for a period of 10 weeks during this time for approximately 30 hours per week. These 10 weeks do not need to be continuous.
- Interns must be current Colorado State University undergraduate or graduate students and must be continuing their education into Fall 2024. Students who are graduating in Spring 2024, prior to the summer internship, will not be accepted.
- There are no financial requirements from the mentor, however if you have funding to support student travel and/or housing, this is appreciated and can be offered to the student.
- Intern payment amount depends on the grade level of the intern.
- For summer 2024 internships, travel funds will be available only as needed, limited to a modest amount, and in the form of reimbursements not advancements. Please keep this in mind as you put together your internship plan.
·    Undergraduate Students will receive up to $5,000 over the summer.
·    Graduate Students will receive $7,000 over the summer.
Mentor Responsibilities (Lead Mentors can be either campus- or field-based):Â Â
·    Review intern applications, conduct interviews and make selections between February 1
st and February 23
rd, 2024.
·    Top three ranked intern selections must be sent to Kyla Davis no later than February 23
rd, 2024.
·   Provide on-site orientation to introduce intern(s) to host site and potential partner site(s).
·    Work with the intern(s) in the first week of the internship to set up daily work schedules, including the appropriate number of hours in the office.
·   Introduce intern(s) throughout the community to stakeholder as appropriate.
·   Provide training and information to partners/external stakeholders about intern’s expectations .
·   Hold weekly Mentor Team meetings with the intern(s) during the duration of the internship.
·   Provide opportunities for professional development that are in line with the intern(s)’ stated goals/objectives.
·   Provide continued mentorship throughout the internship.
· Provide guidance in preparation of the Extension Internship Poster Session presentation at Forum.

- Approve and submit intern’s final poster for Forum.
- Attend the poster session and support the intern(s).
· Complete online survey and performance evaluations at the close of the internship summer program.
- Mentors will assure proper housing needs can be met to accommodate the needs of the intern during internship.
