Internship Overview:

The CSU-AVL project is an online web page intended to educate the public on architectural historic buildings—both on and off campus. The project encourages community members to engage with the content through multifaceted approaches such as (a) middle school and high school teachers developing lectures or assignments on historic architecture, (b) older adult organizations or individuals who are social distancing because of the COVID-19 pandemic engaging in virtual educational content experiences, and (c) existing or prospective Colorado State University (CSU) students or employees exploring interior building spaces.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

Goal: The student intern will create an additional digital repository webpage for nine historic Colorado architectural buildings located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on the CSU-AVL website: https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/dm/programs-and-degrees/galleries-libraries-and-laboratories/architectural-virtual-library/

Scope: The method for obtaining this goal will be to collect research, digitally document buildings, and embed data over ten weeks.

Objectives:
1. O.1 – determine (with mentor guidance) which historic buildings to highlight on the Glenwood Springs webpage;
2. O.2 – utilize 360 video camera capabilities to capture virtual tour content of buildings via Matterport;
3. O.3 – research historic building information and embed the research into the tours via Mattertags;
4. O.4 – integrate inclusive website principles in all webpage content;
5. O.5 – develop interactive, educational content on Matterport; and,
6. O.6 – present to community stakeholders.

With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?

The intern will work with building owners to coordinate video capture and present the final webpage to Glenwood Springs stakeholder groups such as: Glenwood Springs Historic Preservation Commission, Buildings Owners, School District.

What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?

The student intern will demonstrate:
1. O.1 – knowledge of historic buildings in Glenwood Springs, CO to highlight on the webpage;
2. O.2 – an understanding of 360 video camera capture capabilities by creating primary source virtual tour content for Colorado’s historic buildings via Matterport;
3. O.3 – development of historical building context and tours via Mattertags;
4. O.4 – how to integrate inclusive website principles in all webpage content;
5. O.5 – develop interactive, educational content on Matterport; and,
6. O.6 – presentation skills to community stakeholders.

Opportunities for professional development include: the student intern will present their project to the (a) city of Glenwood Springs, (b) teachers in the Glenwood Springs school, and (c) community members. The student will practice networking, building relationships, and gain experience by sharing research findings in a public speaking format.
