Internship Overview:

The internship will support underserved communities within Arapahoe County by assisting with the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs. In collaboration with county Extension staff, the intern will assess interests, resources, and needs of Latinx and underserved youth, adults, and families. The intern will coordinate and implement focus groups within Latinx and underserved communities to learn more about how we can increase the participation of Latinos in CSU Extension programs.

Preference will be given to intern applicants who are bilingual in Spanish.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

Arapahoe County Extension offers robust programs in 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, horticulture, community development, and outreach. The internship will support underserved communities within Arapahoe County by assisting with the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs. In collaboration with county Extension staff, the intern will assess interests, resources, and needs of Latinx and underserved youth, adults, and families. The intern will coordinate and implement focus groups within Latinx and underserved communities to learn more about how we can increase the participation of Latinos in CSU Extension programs.

With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?

This internship will actively collaborate with Arapahoe County Government Departments, Aurora Government, school districts, and community entities throughout Arapahoe County. This intern will work with these partners to coordinate focus groups to understand the needs of underserved communities and to provide educational programs and community engagement opportunities within the community.

What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?

This internship will provide the student with hands-on learning opportunities focusing on working with diverse populations, communication skills, teamwork, successful work habits, critical thinking and problem solving, professional resiliency and adaptability, and developing partnerships with community organizations and leaders. The internship will also be an excellent opportunity for a student to learn transferable skills related program development, delivery, and evaluation.
