Outreach & Enrichment Programs Specialist – Adams County 4-H
Internship Overview:
Adams County 4-H seeks a native Spanish-speaking intern to:
– Partner with a community organization in or near Adams County who serves our Latinx population in facilitating weekly enrichment workshops for Latinx youth
– Create an Adams County Latinx resource map to assess which local organizations are serving the Latinx population, what services they provide, and what gaps exist in educational programming/resources for Latinx youth
The intern will work with Adams County 4-H and community partners to develop linguistically accessible and culturally relevant program adaptations. Ideally, the intern will live in Adams County or nearby, have an understanding of local cultures and policies, established relationships within the Latinx community, and the requisite cultural competencies needed to develop trusting relationships with underserved residents. These qualities will be invaluable in communicating, building partnerships, and developing programs with local Latinx-serving partners, which will support our office’s efforts to achieve the participant and advisory board parity goals established by USDA-NIFA.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:
In applying for this internship, Adams County CSU Extension 4-H hopes to be matched with a student who will work with our team to accomplish two of our goals: weekly youth programming in Spanish with a local partner and creation of a Latinx community resource map. We hope that, by providing Spanish-language programming, the intern will strengthen a partnership with a local organization that can then provide a model to future partners. In the process of creating a Latinx community resource, we hope that the intern will spark connections between our office and Latinx-serving organizations in our community, introducing us and the work of Extension to an expanded audience. The resource map will be used to guide our partnerships and inform our programming.
With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?
The intern will collaborate with Adams County government departments; Thornton, Northglenn, Federal Heights, Aurora and other city governments; school districts; and community entities that serve the county’s Latinx and underserved populations. A large part of the intern’s work will be to identify stakeholders for whom a partnership with Adams County Extension would be beneficial.
What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?
The intern will have the opportunity to learn transferable skills as they plan, deliver, and evaluate programming. The intern will develop their communication and teamwork skills, build professional relationships, and grow their professional network as they communicate and coordinate with office colleagues, diverse audiences, community stakeholders, and partners. The intern will have access to community-based professional opportunities during the summer and in their future endeavors. This internship will allow the intern to gain a deeper understanding of CSU Extension and the methods we currently use to deliver on our land grant mission. The intern will have the opportunity to innovate on our current methods and bring their unique academic, cultural, and community-based perspectives to our work.
