Internship Overview:

The CSU-AVL project is an online web page designed to educate the public about architectural historic buildings, both on and off-campus. The project encourages community engagement through various approaches, including:
(a) Middle school and high school teachers developing lectures or assignments focused on historic architecture.
(b) Older adult organizations or individuals engaging in virtual educational content experiences.
(c) Current or potential Colorado State University (CSU) students or employees exploring interior building spaces.

***Please note that CSU AVL has been awarded grant money from History Colorado to support this internship. CSU AVL will be capable of providing either $5,000 or $7,000 in funding for this internship, along with travel funds. Our aim is to seek support to manage the logistics of this internship and afford the student the opportunity to learn about and engage with the CSU Extension Internship Program.***

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

Goal: The student intern will create an additional digital repository webpage for nine historic Colorado architectural buildings situated in Lake City, Colorado, on the CSU-AVL website: https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/dm/programs-and-degrees/galleries-libraries-and-laboratories/architectural-virtual-library/

Scope: The approach to achieving this goal will involve conducting research, digitally documenting buildings, and integrating data over a period of ten weeks.

Objectives:
O.1 – Utilize 360 video camera capabilities to capture virtual tour content of buildings via Matterport.
O.2 – Conduct research on historic building information and embed the findings into the tours using Mattertags.
O.3 – Incorporate inclusive website principles in all webpage content.
O.4 – Develop interactive and educational content using multiple softwares.
O.5 – Present findings to community stakeholders.

With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?

The intern will collaborate with DOLA’s Main Street specialist and manager, building owners, local teachers, the Historic Preservation Commission, and other relevant stakeholders in Lake City, CO.

What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?

The student intern will:

O.1 – Gain proficiency in utilizing 360 video camera capture capabilities to create primary source virtual tour content for Colorado’s historic buildings via Matterport.
O.2 – Develop historical building context and tours using Mattertags.
O.3 – Learn to integrate inclusive website principles into all webpage content.
O.4 – Create interactive, educational content.
O.5 – Enhance presentation skills for engaging with community stakeholders.

Over the past two summers, students have been accepted to present their CSU AVL work at the Colorado Preservation Inc. Saving Places Conference and other conferences, both within and outside Colorado. This opportunity allows students to establish connections with industry professionals and community members to disseminate the impact of their work.
