Internship Overview:

The CSU Drone Center, in collaboration with the Walter Scott College of Engineering and the Office of the Vice President of Research, has successfully secured funding for the development of a summer outreach program at CSU Spur Campus. This initiative aims to recruit, host, and train economically disadvantaged high school students from the Denver area, enabling them to obtain certification as commercial drone pilots.

Scheduled to take place during the summer of 2024 at CSU Spur Campus, the program will accommodate 54 high school students and teachers. Participants will undergo comprehensive training covering drone piloting, airspace principles, weather, aviation, and the theory of flight. Additionally, the program will introduce participants to higher education, specifically emphasizing CSU, and promote the pursuit of a college degree. This will be done while highlighting the unique facilities offered at CSU Spur.

To support the planning, recruitment, and execution of the CSU Summer Drone Program at CSU Spur, we are actively seeking a CSU student intern. The selected intern will play a vital role in guiding participants through drone piloting and actively contributing to the instruction of drone and aviation-related materials.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

This program presents an incredible opportunity for a CSU student to thrive in the rapidly evolving field of UAV aviation. Participation will not only enrich their CSU education but also equip them with valuable skills, knowledge, and experience, enhancing their marketability upon graduation. Throughout the summer of 2024, the intern will collaborate with the CSU Drone Center Team, starting from May 13th and concluding on Friday, August 9th, 2024.

In the initial week, the intern will familiarize themselves with the policies of the CSU Drone Center. Subsequently, they will have access to the week-long CSU Drone Flight School, where they will acquire the expertise to safely and proficiently fly UAVs and obtain their FAA Remote Pilot certificate. Following this immersive training, the intern will actively contribute to the planning of the SPUR Summer Drone Program.

Throughout June and July, the intern will collaborate with the CSU Drone Center Team to host the drone program at SPUR. Their responsibilities will extend to instructing high school students and teachers in drone flying techniques, all while inspiring them to explore careers in aviation.
