Internship Overview:

We seek capacity to begin building impactful programming for underserved audiences. The outcome of this effort will be a document that describes target communities in each county, and if applicable across counties, as well as assets and resources that already exist and the programs/support they offer. We imagine this can be accomplished through site visits, primary and secondary searches, identification of existing programming and organizations, and similar sources. This initial work will serve as a basis for future work with these audiences in the participating counties. We acknowledge that there are many audiences who have not been engaged in the programming of Extension, while this internship seeks to work with all audiences, we are requiring bilingual Spanish skills for interns interested in this opportunity.

Goals, Scope and Objectives:

The goal of this position is to connect Colorado State University Extension to underserved communities in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Pueblo counties. This initial effort will be accomplished through deliberate outreach with people and programs existing in these counties. The objective is to provide each county with willing partners for long term engagement that will serve more Coloradoans. This will be achieved through the creation of a report that identifies businesses, organizations, neighborhoods, individuals, and other audiences.

With which stakeholder group(s) will the intern work?

The stakeholders will be different in each county. However, we seek to identify county specific stakeholders and regional stakeholders through this internship. Please see an initial list in each county:
Arapahoe: School districts within Arapahoe County, Littleton Community Center, Immigrant and Refugee Youth Service Providers in Aurora, Arapahoe County Human Services and Community Resources Departments, Aurora and Arapahoe County libraries.
Douglas: Douglas County School District, La League, and individuals who have participated in Douglas County Juntos Family Engagement programming.
Pueblo: School districts in Pueblo County, community centers, Pueblo Food Project, CSU-Pueblo, etc.

What student learning outcomes do you anticipate and what are the opportunities for professional development?

By working with three counties, we anticipate that the intern will understand the process of community engagement, will learn facilitation skills, and will apply bilingual communication skills for public engagement.
This position will afford an intern with leadership skills, community engagement skills, extension experience, and the experience of creating a living document for each county. The stakeholders and county offices have limitless potential for professional development. We will work with the intern to support their professional development interests.
